Reed Group Research at the AGU 2024 Conference

Our group is currently preparing to head to Washington D.C. for the annual American Geophysical Union (AGU) conference.
I wanted to give an overview of the working being shared in this conference, and encourage you to come find us if you will be attending. This also will serve as a general snapshot of what our group has been involved with and focused on recently.
The Reed Group research will largely be shared in three thematic Sessions:
- Multisector Dynamics: Science and Modeling for Societal Transformation
- Water and Society: Water Resources Management in a Changing World
- Integrated Hydroterrestrial Modeling: Interagency and Multisector Progress and Opportunities in Implementing Community Test Beds
Note that I also include some Reed Group Alumni in the lists below (Prof Hadjimichael, Prof. Gold, Dr. Singh) but they as well as all the Reed group alum and so great… so why not.
Multisector Dynamics Sessions
MultiSector Dynamics research is focused on how human and natural systems interact, depend on each other, and evolve together over time. This involves examining the connections among various sectors and infrastructures, as well as applying socio-economic methods, risk analysis, and decision theory to better inform earth system science. A key focus is the creation of interoperable data, modeling, and analysis tools that can be integrated into flexible modeling frameworks.

Water and Society
The Water and Society sessions span a range of topics and focal points, but are broadly concerned with feedbacks in the human-water system. There is focus on both the technical side of water management practices and the engagements with stakeholders at different levels in the decision-making process.

Integrated Hydroterrestial Modeling
Multiple US Federal agencies (USGS, USACE, NOAA, DOE, NSF) have come together in recent years to organize the Integrated Hydro-Terrestrial Modeling (IHTM) effort. The goal of the IHTM collaboration is broadly to improve national environmental modeling and prediction capabilities, to support risk assessments and improve decision making.
A key focus in this project is brining together different agencies and bridging various modeling tools, datasets and expertise. In these sessions, you are likely to hear details on various case study projects, how researchers have utilized large national datasets, and lessons that can help improve future studies.
